Bowers v. Hardwick

P-GayRightsCivWomyn.gif

This case is one that is very well known to people concerned with gay rights. It is known as an injustice to the homosexual citizens of America and marks the beginning of many struggles for the Gay Rights Movement. This case started in Georgia, when two gay men were arrested in the privacy of their own home for committing the crime of homosexual sodomy. That law makes it illegal to be involved with any homosexual conduct, even if you are not harming anyone. The arrested men were taken to court and the case made it all the way to the supreme court. In the end the court voted five to four that the right to privacy does not prevent the police from arresting these gay men. Although, these charges were later dropped, this was still seen as injustice to gays, the only problem was that the constitution does not give or prohibit rights for gays, they are not mentioned.
